Smokey McCann

With a twinge of sorrow and a heart full of love, we announce the passing of our beloved Smokey McCann, a Shih Tzu whose heart knew no bounds. His departure from our lives on July 24, 2026, leaves a void that could never be filled, but his memory remains a beacon of love, joy, and happiness. As Charles de Lint once said, "Dogs, for a reason that can only be described as divine, have the ability to forgive, let go of the past, and live each day joyously. It’s something the rest of us strive for.”

Smokey, a cherished member of our family since 2022, brought such an intense level of love and loyalty to our lives that it often left us speechless. His age when he joined us, somewhere between 3 and 4 years old, will forever remain a mystery. What is certain, however, is the profound impact he had on our lives. His gentle spirit and boundless energy filled our home with a warmth that will forever be missed. His story may have begun before us, but we were lucky enough to be a part of his journey, and he was a part of ours.

One cannot mention Smokey without acknowledging the unique bond he shared with our daughter. Like a sentry, he watched over her with a devotion that was heartwarming. His role as her protector was one he took seriously, and the bond they formed is a testament to his loving nature. He taught her, and us, valuable lessons about friendship and unconditional love. His joy in life's simple pleasures - a good walk, a favorite snack, or a cozy time with his family - was a reminder to us all to appreciate the little moments that make our lives worthwhile.

His absence has left a tangible silence in our home, but his memory and the love he bestowed upon us will forever echo in our hearts. Smokey's passing has reminded us of a quote by Anatole France which reads, "Until one has loved an animal, a part of one's soul remains unawakened." Smokey indeed awakened a part of our souls that we didn’t know existed. He brought comfort, joy, and a sense of companionship that will forever be cherished.

Smokey leaves behind his loving momma, Ashley McCann, who will forever treasure the memories she shared with him. As we bid farewell to our dear Smokey, we remember him not with tears of sorrow but with smiles of joy for the love and happiness he brought into our lives.
